Amazing play at CMU Conference meet… Right here at Hail Ridge!!!!

BOONVILLE, Mo. – There were playoffs, playoffs and yet more playoffs after the final round of the 2017 Heart of America Athletic Conference Men’s Golf Championship on Tuesday here at Hail Ridge Golf Course. But when all the dust had settled – and there wasn’t much after eight inches of rain fell before the tourney – Grand View University captured the team title and the Vikings’ Mitch Pfingsten took Medalist honors. GVU clinched a spot in the NAIA National Championship with the win.

There was much excitement at the end of the third round when Pfingsten and William Penn University’s Zachary Chegwidden were tied with identical 1-under-par 212 scores. The two golfers went back out on the course to settle the matter, starting with the 10th hole. Pfingsten won the hole and the title. Chegwidden grabbed second, Sergio Garcia of Mount Mercy University shot a 3-over-par 216 to place third, Myles Pfingsten of Grand View and Hunter Baggett of Culver-Stockton College tied for the fourth spot with identical 9-over-par 222 scores.

Grand View won the team championship by eight strokes, shooting a 29-over-par 881. Mount Mercy and William Penn tied for second with 37-over-par 889 scores. They, too, played a one-hole playoff with top four scores from individual players being tallied. MMU claimed second in the playoff. Culvert-Stockton placed fourth with a 49-over-par 901 and Missouri Valley grabbed fifth with a 53-over-par 905.

Central Methodist University placed ninth. After finishing fifth after the opening round and then slipping to eighth at the end of round two, the Eagles finished with a 948 score. They finished 14 strokes behind eighth-place Baker University (934) and seven strokes ahead of 10th-place Clarke University (955).

Brendan Ross (SR/Louisiana, Mo.) led CMU with a three-round score of 18-over-par 231. He finished in a four-way tie for 26th place. Teammate Kyle Sachs (FR/Troy, Mo.) TOUGH CONDITIONS FOR ROUND 1 OF THE HEARTLAND CONFERENCE MEN’S CHAMPIONSHIP

It was a cold, wet, breezy day for the first two rounds of play here at Hail Ridge.  While the conditions were tough, a few of the players proved tougher!  The players look forward to improved scoring conditions for the final round Tuesday, May 2.  Please feel free to come out and watch some amazing play!
